Adalberto appears in connection with events of 900, when he was among those who invited king Louis III of Provence to take the throne of Italy away from king Berengario I, despite the fact that he appears to have already been married to Berengario's daughter Gisela ["Huius vero tam turpis sceleris auctor Adelbertus Eporegiae civitatis marchio erat, cui et idem Berengarius filiam suam, nomine Gislam, coniugio copularat; ex qua et filium genuerat, cui avi sui vocabulum dederat." Liudprand, Antapodosis, ii, 33, Dümmler (1877), 40]. On 21 April 902, Adalberto appears as a vassal of the emperor Louis III ["Adalbertus marchio filius quondam Anscherii" Hlawitschka (1960), sketch of Adalbert von Ivrea, citing Dipl. Lodov. III, 51 (#18) (not seen by me)], whose service he appears to have left after his blinding in 905. In June 907, a vassal of Adalberto dated a document according to the regnal years of Berengario I [Hlawitschka (1960), sketch of Adalbert von Ivrea, citing Tiraboschi (1785), 68 (#92) (not seen by me)], suggesting that Adalberto was then also a vassal of Berengario. He appears as a vassal of Berengario I in charters of Berengario dated 13 June 910 ["Adalbertus gloriosus marchio dilectus gener et fidelis noster" Dipl. Bereng. I, 193 (#71)], 26 January 913 ["Adelberti gloriosissimi et dilectissimi generi nostri" ibid., 233 (#87)], and ca. 913 ["Adalbertum gloriosum marchionem dilectumque generum nostrum" ibid., 248 (#93)]. In 921, Adalberto was part of a conspiracy which rebelled against Berengario ["His temporibus isdem Adelbertus, gener regius, Eporegiae civitatis marchio, atque ..., Berengario rebelles extiterant." Liudprand, Antapodosis, ii, 57, Dümmler (1877), 48]. At that time, Berengario's daughter Gisela had died and Adalberto had remarried [ibid, ii, 56, pp. 47-8, see below]. On 4 February 922, he appears as a vassal of king Rudolf II of Burgundy, and Adalberto was still living on 8 December 922, when he appears in another act of Rudolf [Hlawitschka (1960), sketch of Adalbert von Ivrea, citing Dipl. Rod. II, 95 (#1), 100 (#3) (not seen by me)]. Adalberto appears to have been deceased by 8 October 924, on which date "Hermengarda inclyta comitissa" appears in a charter of Rudolf [ibid., 111 (#6)].
