For many years the American Society of Genealogists has acknowledged genealogical excellence with three awards.
The Donald Lines Jacobus Award is awarded annually to an outstanding genealogical work of any type (usually a book) published within the previous five years. Less frequently, the Society awards Certificates of Appreciation to individuals or organization who have made extraordinary contributions to genealogy. Finally, the ASG Scholar Award rewards talented genealogists with stipends to pursue advanced academic training in genealogy.
The annual Jacobus Award and occasional Certificates of Appreciation have no external nomination process; they are awarded by deliberation among the Fellows. The ASG Scholar Award, on the other hand, is open to all genealogists by application.
