Charles M. Hansen (b. 1933), a native Californian, received his B.A. (specializing in European history) from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1955. He was commissioned as a Regular Army officer (Infantry) in 1955, and after a career that included a combat tour in Viet Nam and the command of an infantry battalion in Korea, retired in 1982 with the rank of colonel. He received an M.A. (specializing in medieval history) from San Francisco State University (SFSU) in 1985. Since 1996, he has been co-editor of The Genealogist. His publications have focused primarily on proving or disproving claimed Quaker gentry descents and on solving problems in medieval genealogy.
